Our Story
After four generations uninterruptedly at the helm of this industrial group and with the fifth approaching the threshold of 90 years of history, the philosophies behind the success that the furniture world pays tribute to Mantellassi 1926 are still the same: passion, elegance, uniqueness, authenticity. These characteristics are found in every detail of the collections, residential furnishings, hotel, naval, and commercial projects. Mantellassi 1926 has always been a recognizable stylistic, design and production benchmark, holding in high regard the centuries-old Tuscan history, mother of endless ingenious cues adopted by the company’s current designers, who mix glitter and classic to achieve a glamorous look.
For the next generation, Nicola and Roberta Mantellassi are creating an exclusive new headquarters, where history and technology are pulsating and producing an uninterrupted flow of innovation. A place where one can appreciate the softness of a certain velvet, the virtuosity of a particular carving, the preciousness of an inlay in precious materials, the mastery of an embroidery with the thinnest thread, and understand that these are just a few of the many factors that identify luxury.
Buying luxury means not only ostentation, but above all the satisfaction of owning an ‘original’ piece to be handed down from generation to generation.
For those who have learned the true spirit of the concept of luxury, it is a privilege to be able to extend it to their loved ones and experience it in their own environments. Mantellassi 1926 knows exactly how to interpret the aspirations of luxury devotees and can provide answers that are perfectly attuned to their desires.
During this decade, Mantellassi debuts with a series of collections thanks to a number of celebrated designers, such as Samuele Mazza, Alessio Mazza, Manzoni and Tapinassi, Gianfranco Gualtierotti, Andrea Perra, Martina Collina. In 2005, Mantellassi launched the “DecoGlam” collection inspired by the classic European Deco style, with a touch of Glamour; in 2008/2009 this collection was extended to 300 pieces, entering the field of Total Look. During the same period, the company supplies furniture to several Boutiques, Hotels and restaurants, working on unique and celebrated pieces in the market. This latest era has seen a succession of Showroom openings internationally; Moscow and three cities in China, with the introduction of the very recent masterpiece, the “Flair” collection.

In 1980, interior designer Tiziano Lera designed a collection of 12 small armchairs, known simply as “parrots,” and living room items in the Avant Garde style. The following year, Carlo Mantellassi’s son Nicola joined the company and launched the “Antiqua” collection: one of the most revolutionary dining tables, floor lamps and chairs ever produced before, pieces that reproduced originals found in famous castles. The strong acceptance of this collection, produced in wood and bronze, reaffirms the importance of Mantellassi’s work with world-renowned international designers, such as Antonio Arena. In the late 1980s, the debut of Roberta, Nicola’s wife, as director of research and development takes place. Significant support kicks off with the launch of the “Romantica” collection: a continental furniture idea with cues from the archives of the world’s best-known design studios. In 1996, “Patina,” Mantellassi’s memorable collection with a vintage, more livable look and excellent value for money, was reintroduced. In the same year, the opening of the Shop in Shop in Almaty, Kazakhstan, represents a milestone in Mantellassi’s distribution strategy. “Etnica,” a collection including oriental, Arab and African style furniture, is born.

Carlo Mantellassi took over the presidency of the company in 1960, upon the death of his father. He identified new market niches and expanded the range with new collections. Mantellassi opens a production unit for polyurethane foam in Quarrata, together with some friends and competitors, in a joint effort to create product quality excellence. New proposals in the 1960s and 1970s include the Shabby chic and Baroque collections, and Mantellassi is also notable for the introduction in ’69 of the postmodern collection.

In 1941, more than 500 objects collected by Mantellassi are formally organized and displayed in Tuscany. Mantellassi introduced the steel collection, the first truly modern collection produced in the Tuscan region. In 1948, just after World War II, the company popularized neoclassical design with the introduction of its “Palladio” collection, based on the careful and exhaustive study of countless original works located in museums. The well-known designer, Giuseppe Terragni, partnered with Mantellassi in 1951 with the first Scandinavian collection for the Italian market. In 1959, Carlo Mantellassi joined the company and began to produce a simpler and more price-conscious collection, effectively structuring the company into three divisions: Wholesale Timber, Retail and Furniture Industry.

Mantellassi ventured into modern style with his interpretation of Art Deco, including several pieces designed by Remo, who, upon his father’s death, became president of the company. He thus launched a line of complete bedrooms from designer designs and furnishings selected by well-known modernists in 1932, thus collaborating in the debut of the modern movement in the Italian market. Then, the ‘Ottoman’ collection, the first of its kind in Italy, was born. In 1932 the design is mainly Bauhaus, produced by master upholsterers and cabinetmakers identified in the Tuscan district. Two years later Mantellassi introduced a line of rationalist furniture.

Macario Mantellassi, a great upholsterer, founded an interior carpentry and door company in 1926 in Quarrata, just outside Florence. The following year he made his first furniture object, a sofa bed combined with a bookcase, called “GIREVOLE.”
Son Remo, after graduating from the University of Florence with a degree in Architecture, joined his father at work as a carpenter, along with his wife Elisa.
